Student Mental Health is Looking Dire
We are in the middle of our third clinical trial with eQuoo, and even we were shocked at what we found…
It’s clear that mental health is an issue which is universally crucial to each and every one of us. You would have to live under a rock to miss how COVID has negatively impacted our mental health and that many professionals predict a tidal wave of mental illness heading our way, even as the pandemic (hopefully) subsides.
What you may not be aware of, is what a HUGE and lingering effect it has on our young adults, for example students.
Mental ill-health has a long lasting economic and social effect on a students life.
If a student struggles with mental ill-health during their time at university, it will have an effect on their grades, their life choices and their chance in the market after graduating.
Over 40% of the hundreds of students we surveyed said that mental illness ‘often’ or ‘always’ has a negative effect on their performance at uni, while over 10% think they may need to take a break due to mental health issues. If that isn’t worrying enough, over 2% have already dropped out of uni already to protect their health.
Reach out to a student you know and offer support, if you can. Check in with your children and friends and neighbours, because things aren’t going too well for quite a lot of people.
Failing, prolonging and terminating studying will have a long lasting economic and social impact on their lives, nevermind the pain and suffering a mental illness brings with it.
We need to raise awareness and make sure students and other young adults have access to evidence-based care and prevention tools that allow them to deal with the mental stressors that are towering over them every day.
